Biostim and Nutrition

Biostim supply quality and cost effective Registered nutrients to the Agricultural sector with the Freedom of Choice of products to enable farmers to produce crops in healthier soil with optimal yields.

The role of nutrients in plants

The main function of nutrients is to create amino acids, which are the main building blocks of proteins. The Amino acids are used in forming proto-plasm, the site for cell division and thus for plant growth and development. It is needed for all of the enzymatic reactions in a plant and necessary for photosynthesis.

Nutrient availability

The availability of nutrients to plants is influenced by many interrelated factors.

These would include:

  • aeration
  • temperature
  • root surface area
  • mycorrhizal development

  • parental rock material
  • particle size
  • humus and water content
  • pH

Not enough nutrients?

This condition happens due to a lack of chemicals in poor soils. However, crops may be unable to absorb the required chemicals even when the soils are rich. It is of utmost importance to identify soil salinization which is a serious cause of nutrient deficiency in plants.

When plants have nutrient deficiencies, it cause symptoms such as leaf yellowing or browning, sometimes in distinctive patterns.

This may be accompanied by stunted growth and poor flowering or fruiting.

If plants get too much nutrients, they can't get rid of the excess nutrients so the nutrients cause root and leaf damage. When there is leaf damage, or burn, it reduces the available surface area for photosynthesis to occur. As a result, your plants will produce less glucose that is required for optimal growth.

The above conditions can have a significant impact on your farming, resulting in reduced crop yield or poor plant quality.

Preventing plant deficiency

Measure to Know!

It is imperative to frequently measure your nutrient solution's conductivity, pH level, and temperature.

We have various resources and products available to assist you.
